You have a neighbor that gardens. I'm willing to bet almost everyone in Wild Rose does. True to our Welsh, German, English and Norwegian roots - we are a garden village! Once we were the Village of Roses - there were a lot more roses then. Yet, gardens continue to bloom, vegetables grow and what the deer, gophers or rabbits don't get - we enjoy with our families and friends!
There's something magical about raising something you can eat from a tiny seed. The feel of the earth, the smell of the soil, the taste of the dirt on your tongue and lips...these are all good things! Gardening is a relaxing past time, yet one of the few that will actually put food on the table (yes, there is also hunting, trapping and fishing). Gardening is a hobby, a job, and art form - gardening is many things - many different things to many people, perhaps different to each of us. Does it help you remember the days when you would garden with a family member who is now gone? Or does it make you think of a dog you had, who would dig up your garden (or worse, your mothers')? How about bringing back memories of the Victory Garden days - when you needed a garden to provide much needed food for your family?
Your library - The Patterson, has a wide selection of books on the subject of gardening. We also have a few folks who know something about plants and are always happy to chat! One reminder, on April 22, we'll be hosting Ev Eckstein's world-famous Square Foot Gardening program from 9:30-Noonish> Forget the old days of hoeing, etc. - square foot gardening is easy and productive!
See you in the garden!
