Winter and A good Book by the Fire

There's something about curling up with a good book in winter...

It's comforting, like Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Tomato Soup, or a nice cup of hot chocolate - cocoa if you prefer, after playing in the snow all day - sledding, skiing, building a fort, you know!  Books are comfort food for your brain.

A book is a friend you open and visit with.  Your friend, book, talks to you, you listen, creating different voices for the characters in your head, you imagine the wind pounding the backs of the characters, you see the white whale breach the ocean's surface, you are looking for Eeyore's Tail or hoping that Pooh can float up and get some 'hunny'.  You are there when an assassin strikes down a leader or a detective finds a clue. You are flying high above Paris, or canoeing down a raging river.

Books take you places - all in the comfort of your cozy couch, easy chair, bed or even bathtub!  You travel the world, fly airplanes, explore distant planets, practice magic and fight a Dark Lord, go on a quest with Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits - you learn how to fix your bicycle or wax your cross country skis.

I could go on about how reading is the best thing you can do for your brain, how it keeps the old young and helps the young gain wisdom, but you know that.  Just come in, check out a book and give your brain some comfort food.  You can even try one of our "Mystery Date" Books!

GIve your brain some comfort food - check out a book today!  And read to your children and have them read back to you!
